【摘要】:Materialfinerthanthe75-x03BC;m(No.200)sievecanbeseparatedfromlargerparticlesmuchmoreefficientlyandcompletelybywetsievingthanwithdrysieving.Therefore,whenaccuratedeterminationsofmaterialfinerthan75-x03BC;msieveinsoilaredesired,thistestmethodisusedonthetestspecimenpriortodrysieving.Usuallytheadditionalamountofmaterialfinerthan75-x03BC;msieveobtainedinthedrysievingprocessisasmallamount.Ifitislarge,theefficiencyofthewashingoperationshouldbechecked,asitcouldbeanindicationofdegradationofthesoil.Withsomesoils,particularlyclayeysoils,inordertokeepthefinermaterialfromadheringtothelargerparticles,itwillbenecessarytosoakthesoilpriortowashingitthroughthesieve.Adeflocculatingagent(dispersingagent)shouldbeaddedtothesoilwhenitissoaked.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverdeterminationoftheamountofmaterialfinerthana75-m(No.200)sievebywashing.1.2TwomethodsfordeterminingtheamountofmaterialfinerthantheNo.200sieveareprovided.Themethodtobeusedshallbespecifiedbytherequestingauthority.Ifnomethodisspecified,thechoiceshouldbebasedontheguidancegivenin4.2and7.31.2.1MethodA-Testspecimenisnotdispersedpriortowashsieving.1.2.2MethodB-Testspecimenisdispersedbysoakinginwatercontainingadeflocculatingagentpriortowashsieving.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
